What is The Death Academy?
There’s one thing we all have in common, and it’s the one thing we get uncomfortable talking about.
It’s not our fault. It’s what happens over time when society changes, and we as humans become further removed from death itself. It’s all outsourced now, down to our grieving. We get taught how to read, write, and share our toys, but we’re expected to figure out all facts of dying, on our own.
Physical death and symbolic ones.
The Death Academy is a place to talk about all the stuff. In a real human way, including the tough questions, weird questions and everything practical. But no matter what the topic is, there is no one belief that’s required to be here.
The only requirement is being curious.

I believe this is one of those callings where the work chooses you, which is a nice way of saying I didn’t volunteer.
I didn’t choose the death life, the death life chose me.
I've had a lot of death in my life. Family, pets, friends. I've been there in the ending days and I've been there at the actual moment. And somehow I could just handle it. I don't have a more elegant way to put that. I have always been able to have deep, dark and uncomfortable conversations. Possibly that’s why my friend group is small.
What I have struggled to find over the years is the place to talk about all the things without feeling like you’re in a funeral home or doing something seedy. Why aren’t we allowed to talk about the one thing we’re all going to do - LIKE HUMANS?
So as they say, I couldn’t find what I was looking for, so I made it.
It took a long time for me to find my voice, and once I did, I was afraid to use it.
I am here now, and glad you are too.
